Macramé

"Macramé or macrame is a form of textile-making using knotting rather than weaving or knitting. Its primary knots are the square knot and forms of "hitching": full hitch and double half hitches. It was long crafted by sailors, especially in elaborate or ornamental knotting forms, to decorate anything from knife hadles to bottles to parts of ships.”

“In the 1960s macramé became a popular craft and creative art technique in America and in Europe.

Macrame reached it’s zenith in the 20th century in the beginning to middle 70’s when “Vogue” Magazine brought out a book on the subject, therefore elevating it to the rank of  “modern-chic” though it also heralded the beginning of the decline of an art which was also considered a sort of  adjunct to the hippie lifestyle.”
